The backstory. I come up with too many cockamammie ideas every day and somehow Lewey and Barry still talk to me. Three winters ago I came up with this "cardboard sled" idea with Isaiah. Each winter would pass and for one reason or another it would not happen. It did not take long before it became a running joke. Just another one of my wild ideas that would never happen. And then, somehow it how it worked. Today, it all came together with major help from Phil and Iz of Bryant Pond. This isn't just sledding folks. We built in math, science, collaboration, and reflection. Heck yeah they had fun. We do still kids to have fun at school, right? But at the end of the day, when we are reflecting and one of our students (all on his own) draws the conclusion that a group might have excluded someone or if another student compliments another who is nowhere near her social clique, then I think we are heading in the right direction. Reflection. Experience without reflection is wasted. And of course, we can't forget the essay I want Friday. Couldn't agree more, Will. It was awesome. |
