The Marble Run Comes to a Close

 and the students are very sad.

After a months of working on the Marble Roll a couple of hours each week during spare moments, MESA students are finally done with their constructions. Groups came away with a better understanding of inertia, velocity, friction, and how duct tape and hot glue are not permanent solutions when building structures.  Students were challenge to write about their structures in a way that clearly should the scientific concepts juggled, as well as the math involved.

What you cannot see here, it that on the other side the students made a colorful MESA sign. Notice the spiral of the gumball machine, the change of direction of the ramps, and the amount of travel of the funnel (not much space needed to provide lots of travel). The coolest feature: the jump. The marble jumps from the ramps to the Plinko-like structure.
