So....are we going to have a flood this year?

In the last few weeks, we have been discussing snowpack and flood potential. Yesterday, MESA visited Thomas Hawley and his friends with the National Weather Bureau as they performed their snowpack studies. Students were able to see the how's and why's of snowpack studies.Truly an eye opening experience for the students and staff as Hawley discussed gamma radiation and how it is measured from an airplane to record snowpack in remote areas.

Great trip and the students were invited back anytime to see Hawley's office and weather station.

We also are experimenting with iPod technology and giving some students the opportunity to access and process information in a different way. We gave out a half dozen or so iPods and asked the students to record and process what they learned. From that, the students were given the bus ride back (60 mins) to put together something to publish. Here is one such project:
