On September 18, 2015, MESA went on a trip down the Saco River. At the beginning of the day, we didn’t leave as soon as they finished the pledge. We first went to UA’s. Once they were finished, we left. Unlike all the other years, we took the bus this time. When we got to swans falls, we got out of the bus, brought the canoes down to the water, and waited for further instruction.

Mr. Oliver told us some rules and then we started paddling. In my canoe, there was Me, Emily, and Luna. Not even two minutes into the trip, we saw a huge bird. IT WAS A BALD EAGLE!!!! That was a great experience because some of us have never even seen one before. then we paddled on. About half way through, we beached our boats and circled up. Mr. Oliver told us that we needed to make a tower with anything that we could find on the beach. The catch was, only girls could touch sticks and only boys could touch sand. The competition was to build the highest tower. Once everyone was finished, Mr. Oliver told us to connect them all, but the connectors have to be off the ground. It took us another 15 minutes just to do that. Balance was key. We left it standing and paddled away for the next people to see.

We stopped for lunch and ate. After everyone finished, Mr. Oliver gave all of us a piece of wax paper to make a floating object to enter in a water race. He gave us five minutes to finish them then called us to stand in the water and release them. We watched them float to Mr. oliver and Acadia won. After that it was the end. We were at canal bridge. we took the canoes out of the water, and “walked” in the water while we waited for the vans. Today was a great team building day.
