MESA Rides to Tin Mtn's Bear Paw Land Tract

posted Oct 21, 2013, 7:09 PM by Jotham Oliver
MESA checked their ABC's of biking and rolled out of Molly Ockett to visit Tin Mountain's Bear Paw Land Tract. As it was our first major excursion on bikes, we were fortunate that it was a pleasant chilly morning as we rode along the Mountain Division Trail. It was a 2 1/2 mile trip there.
Once there, students had an outdoor classroom with Dr. Mike Cline. After lecture, lesson, and notes, the students were led on a hike through the deep forest to discover vernal pools, bizarre trees, and a unique beaver dam.Too many learning opportunities along the way. After a quick lunch and a look at some soil horizons, the students hiked along a stream to further their understanding of water ecology.
Off on the bikes to head back for advisory time. All said and done we went over 10 miles today. Sleep well, little ones. I know I will.
