Going back to the big pines

Last week, MESA students hiked Big Pines Nature Trail at Hemenway State Forest in Tamworth, NH. Tamworth Conservation Commission maintains a beautiful walking trail through a stand of large white pine trees. One of New England’s largest white pines is found along this trail. We found some pretty big ones! This is a great place to study an old growth, late succession forest. The four hawks circling above wasn't bad either!
