Dick Fortin, master educator and lumberjack

On Thursday, MESA travelled up to Tin Mountain for a packed day. First, the day started with some relaxation and meditation with Lily Morgan. As always, this helps focus our students for the lessons ahead. From there, we fortunate to have visiting educator Dick Fortin. The students had their eyes open to the way forestry used to be before chainsaws and skidders. Many tools were discussed and the students enjoyed having to name and come up with functions for some of them. After a quick lunch, students were put into groups. While some students reviewed concepts on a nature walk, others tried their hand at a pull saw. Hands down, the best treat was a visit from an old timer who gave the students an earful about the ways of the lumberjack.
