On April 3, MESA went, with several birding experts to Biddeford Pool. We were in search of knowledge, Snowy Owls and the famed Surf Bird from Alaska. We were lucky; we saw harbor seals, 3 different types of scoters, Black Ducks, two Great Egrets, a Long Tailed Duck, a Northern Cardinal, an Eastern Phoebe, the largest duck in the world : the Common Eider, and the SNOWY OWL! The owl was spotted just as we were leaving. It was sitting there on top of a house just looking around. We were told to look in high places over large clearing because that is most likely the place to find them. It is most likely to find them there because it is their hunting technique to rest and scope out food then fly down to catch it; which is easiest to do from a high point with an expansive view. We went to learn and that is exactly what we did.-Jessica Corbitt
